Our educational programs uplift school dropouts, child laborers and children from vulnerable communities.

VIKASANA runs a Bridge School in Chattanahalli to support children who were school dropouts, child labourers, domestic workers, orphans and those from single-parent or poor families. With support from Anna Schmidt School, Frankfurt through KKS, Germany, children are provided shelter, nutritious food, learning materials and a safe space to grow and learn.

Located 13 km from Tarikere, VIKASANA runs a children’s rehabilitation Bridge School in Duglapura with support from ASHA for Education, Seattle. The school focuses on education, structured routines and holistic development to ensure the overall well-being of underprivileged children.

Under support from Karl Kübel Stiftung and individual donors from Germany, three girls from underprivileged families received educational assistance. Shruthi Bai completed GNM Nursing, Supriya finished +2 Science and Shilpa is pursuing her final year in Engineering.

Micro finance through SANGAMITRA FINANCE & ICICI Bank
VIKASANA operates a Bridge School in Chattanahalli to support children affected by child labour, school dropout, orphanhood and poverty. With support from Anna Schmidt School (Frankfurt) through KKS, Germany, children receive shelter, nutritious meals, learning materials and a safe environment to study and play.

Empowering Women Leaders for Advocacy & Action
With support from The Hunger Project, VIKASANA conducted workshops and training sessions to build the capacity of 327 elected women leaders across 129 Gram Panchayats in 9 blocks of Chikmagalur, Shimoga, Hassan and Davangere. The initiative aimed to strengthen their leadership, advocacy skills and participation in local governance.

Drought relief project
Since April 2014, VIKASANA has been implementing a drought relief project in 20 villages of Kadur block with support from Karl Kübel Stiftung and BMZ, Germany. The initiative focuses on reducing poverty and improving the lives of 1,598 small farmer families by building local capacity, promoting sustainable practices, and enabling community-driven drought mitigation.

Integrated Tribal Development Programme (TDF-NABARD)
Since May 2011, VIKASANA has been implementing this programme in Koppa and Sringeri blocks of Chikmagalur with support from NABARD. The initiative focuses on sustainable economic development and has benefited 435 tribal families through various livelihood and community support activities.

Bio-sand water technology programme
With support from People for Progress in India (PPI), VIKASANA implemented safe drinking water solutions in 3 villages of Kalkere Gram Panchayat, Kadur block. Bio-sand filters were installed, benefiting 80 families and significantly reducing waterborne diseases, ensuring a healthier living environment.

Tree plantation programme for reduction carbon emission
To combat carbon emissions, VIKASANA launched a tree plantation initiative in three villages of the Duglapura cluster with support from PPI, Seattle. Over 658 rural residents actively participated, promoting environmental awareness and contributing to a greener, healthier ecosystem.

Begur watershed program FIP Phase (NABARD)
With support from NABARD, VIKASANA implemented the watershed programme in Begur and four nearby villages of Tarikere taluk. The initiative benefited 370 families by improving dryland farming through water and soil management, earthen bunds, farm ponds, training and community motivation activities.

Savayava Bhagya Yojane
Building on the success of the Organic Village Programme, VIKASANA was selected to implement Savayava Bhagya Yojane in several villages across Tarikere and N.R. Pura taluks. The program focuses on organic farming through awareness, training, vermi composting, pest and crop management, livelihood security and certification support.

Bio-diversity management programme
VIKASANA is promoting biodiversity awareness in Chikmagalur and Mudigere blocks through training and community engagement. Two awareness programs were conducted with participation from officials, elected representatives, and farmers. Formation of Bio-diversity Management Committees is underway to ensure long-term conservation efforts.

Promotion of handicrafts design and development
To revive disappearing rural crafts, VIKASANA is implementing AHVY and Non-AHVY schemes in Chikmagalur with support from the Handicrafts Development Commissioner, Mangalore. So far, 14 artisan groups have been formed, 229 families surveyed, 30 artisans trained through design workshops and identity cards issued to 90 artisans.

Bridge Builder Programme (BBP)
VIKASANA has hosted the Bridge Builder Programme, coordinated by Weltwärts, for the past five years. Volunteers from Germany, including Ms. Julia Kast and Ms. Alena Jahns, engage in intercultural exchange, rural development and educational activities. Their seven-month volunteership includes working with children, school visits, cultural learning, festivals, creative sessions, and documentation—creating a lasting impact on both the community and the volunteers.

Support from BEFC, Bangalore
The Bangalore Education Foundation for Children (BEFC) supports VIKASANA’s Bridge School at Chattanahalli by donating audio-visual equipment, learning materials, and games. Their contributions have enriched the learning experience for children. Notably, five students participated in a science exhibition in Birur and received recognition for their creative models.

Comprehensive District HIV/AIDS (Link worker) program
VIKASANA, with support from UNICEF, PSI Bangalore, DH&FWO, and DAPCU, is actively implementing the HIV/AIDS Link Worker Programme in Chikmagalur district. The initiative raises awareness, builds community leadership and strengthens HIV+ support networks through condom promotion, village mapping, HRG tracking and referral services—contributing to prevention and care at the grassroots level.

Project Axhaya (To control tuberculosis)
With support from CHAI Secunderabad, VIKASANA conducted awareness campaigns on Tuberculosis (TB) and RNTCP in over 72 low-performing villages. Key activities included village meetings, sputum testing, referral services and distribution of awareness materials to address misconceptions and improve community health.

Promotion of Herbal Medicines
VIKASANA promotes traditional herbal practices to reduce reliance on expensive modern medicine. Through awareness programs, herbal exhibitions, and support to local nativaidyas, over 640 people in 18 villages benefited. The initiative also includes developing herbal gardens and conserving medicinal plants for long-term health solutions.
